What does it mean?

Citations only or Citations with abstracts or summaries.(Citation / Abstract)

The database only supplies a citation or a citation with an abstract. A citation is the basic information needed about an article to find it in the CSULB Library. Indexes and research databases will always give you a citation. Citations include the following information:

  • Author of the article
  • Title of the article
  • Periodical (Journal) Title
  • Volume/Issue information
  • Date
  • Pages

An abstract is a brief summary of the article. Sometimes abstracts will be only a sentence or two; sometimes you will find more extensive abstracts.

Some full text articles available.(Some Full Text)

Though some of the articles in the database are full text; many are not.

Full text articles available.(Full Text)

The database is supplying the full text of the articles. Many full text articles will not include the graphics that might be found in the original print article (tables, charts, diagrams, photographs, etc.)

Articles are Adobe Acrobat or PDF files and are the image of the original article.(Adobe PDF)

A scanned image of the original article is available. This scanned image retains the look and feel of the original article, including any tables, charts, diagrams, photographs, etc, but is generally displayed only in black and white (even if the original article was in color). The database may indicate this by saying "PDF File" which is a proprietary file type which must be viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

This printed index provides citations or citations with abstracts. (Printed)

A print index is recommended because it 1) contains subject content not included in electronic indexes, 2) covers years not covered the electronic indexes, and / or 3) may be the best index or only index for this discipline.
