License

California State University, Long Beach participates in the CSU SPSS License [opens new window]. It is an annual subscription coordinated by the Office of Academic Technology. The SPSS license use agreement period is July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff are eligible to install and use SPSS on their campus and home computers. This software can only be installed on personally owned computers used primarily for CSULB business in addition to university owned computers.

Software installation always requires administrative privileges of which you may not have on your university owned computer. Please contact your division, department or college technologist for assistance.

Students

Students are not eligible to install SPSS on their personal computers. Students can use the software wherever it is installed on campus-owned computers such as the campus computer labs.

The minimum system requirements for SPSS vary by operating systems.

Microsoft Windows

Installation

SPSS can be downloaded from the Software Depot [opens new window]. The Software Depot steps are listed below.

  1. Log into Software Depot using your MYCSULB account and password.
  2. Use "Search by Product Titles" and select an SPSS product. Note that when you download SPSS 17 for Windows, AMOS 17 for Windows is not included (separate download); when you download SPSS 16 for Windows, AMOS 16 for Windows is included. Click Go button.
  3. Click "Add to Cart".
  4. Click "Check Out".
  5. Product and customer names should appear. Enter your email address as you will be sent a notification message. Click the Next button.
  6. Purchase Receipt screen will appear. Click "Secure Download".
  7. Click "Download Software". A security warning will appear - click Continue button.
  8. When asked if you would like to save this file, click "Save File".
  9. Select a directory to save SPSS and click "Save".
  10. Logoff of Software Depot.
  11. Navigate to the downloaded SPSS file and click to launch.
  12. "License Authorization and Software Installation" screen will appear. Click continue.
  13. Click "Launch Install" button and when ready, double click the SPSS "setup.exe" file to begin the installation.
