License

California State University, Long Beach has a site license for the SAS Education Analytic Suite (EAS) statistical software. It is an annual subscription coordinated by the Office of Academic Technology. The SAS license period is from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.

The license provides SAS software for installation on university-owned computers. Software installation always requires administrative privileges of which you may not have on your university-owned computer. Please contact your division, department or college technologist for assistance.  Faculty, staff and students can also install SAS on their personally owned computers that are primarily used for CSULB business.

Operating Systems

The minimum system requirements for SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4 Foundation products support Vista editions targeting the business market.

  • Windows Vista Business
  • Windows Vista Enterprise
  • Windows Vista Ultimate

SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4 does not support Vista editions targeting the consumer market such as WIndows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Home Basic.

SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4 is also supported on Windows XP Professional updated with Service Pack 1 or higher.

SAS 8.2 is supported on Windows XP Home Edition. This product is available for consumer market.

Hardware Requirements (Minimum)

  • Intel or Intel-compatible Pentium II class processor
  • Memory: 128 MB RAM or more for improved performance; 128 MB or more of swapfile space
  • Hard Disk Space: 2 GB of free hard disk space for program files
  • Monitor: SVGA (resolution of 800 x 600 or higher
  • Apple Intel-based Macintosh users can run SAS using Windows emulation software such as Microsoft's Virtual PC, Fusion or Parallels.

Installation

SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4 can be downloaded from the Software Depot [opens new window]. if you have a high speed network and over 15 GB of free hard disk space. Users are encouraged to borrow the software at the University Library Reserve desk. The software is on DVD media due to its size. SAS 8.2 for Windows XP Home Edition users can also borrow the software at the University Library Reserve desk.

The Software Depot steps are listed below.

  1. Log into Software Depot using your MYCSULB account and password.
  2. Use "Search by Product Titles" and select "SAS 9.1.3 for Windows". Click Go button.
  3. Click "Add to Cart".
  4. Click "Check Out".
  5. Product and customer names should appear. Enter your email address as you will be sent a notification message. Click the Next button.
  6. Purchase Receipt screen will appear. Click "Secure Download".
  7. Click "Download Software". A security warning will appear - click Continue button.
  8. When asked if you would like to save this file, click "Save File".
  9. Select a directory to save SAS and click "Save".
  10. Logoff of Software Depot.
  11. Navigate to the downloaded SAS file and click to launch.
  12. "License Authorization and Software Installation" screen will appear. Click continue.
  13. Click "Launch Install" button and when ready, double click the SAS "setup.exe" file to begin the installation.

Note: users with personally-owned computers are required to have an administrative account with a password other than "blank" to successfully install SAS. Contact your division, department or college technologist for assistance with installing SAS on university-owned computers.
