CSULB participates in the CSU-Microsoft Campus Agreement [opens new window], which only allows the installation of Microsoft Office 2008 for Macintosh on university owned computers. Campus technology staff can download Office 2008 from Software Depot for this purpose. Faculty, staff and students may purchase Office 2008 at the University Computer Store [opens new window] for personally owned computers used primarily for university business. Contact your division, department or college technologist for assistance.

System Requirements

To run Microsoft Office 2008 for Macintosh, your computer must meet the following requirements:

  • Computer/Processor: A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (500 MHz or faster) processor
  • Memory: 512 MB of RAM or more
  • Hard Disk: 1.5 GB of available hard-disk space; HFS+ hard disk format (also known as Mac OS Extended or HFS Plus)
  • Drive: DVD drive or connection to a local area network (if installing over a network)
  • Display: 1024 x 768 or higher-resolution monitor
  • Operating System: Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or later
  • Miscellaneous: Entourage and certain features require Internet access (fees may apply)
  • For Office 2008 for Mac and Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Editions: Connectivity to Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 or later is required for certain advanced functionality in Entourage 2008.
  • Additional items or services required to use certain features:
    • Modem: 14.4 Kbps or higher.
    • Internet Access: Internet connection through either an Internet service provider (ISP) or a network. Internet access might require a separate fee to an ISP; local or long-distance telephone charges might also apply.

Installation

Campus-owned Computers

If the software you download from Software Depot is in the ISO format and your CD-burning software does not support ISO images, OAT recommends downloading ISO Recorder [opens new window].

Microsoft Office 2008 for Macintosh is part of the CSULB Microsoft Campus Agreement Program. Activate the product using CSULB's volume license key ( serial number ) for this product during the installation process [opens new window]. The license key is displayed as part of the product details in Software Depot. Log in to Software Depot and then click on the "My Software" link in the upper left hand corner of the page. Click on the link labeled "Secure Download" for the product and activation code.

Personally-owned Computers

The University's Volume Licensing Media and keys may NOT be used for Microsoft Office 2008 for Macintosh installations on personally owned computers used primarily for university business. For those installations, faculty and staff must purchase a media kit from the bookstore.
