Tips and Tricks for Instructors
BeachBoard Tests
- Offer a zero-point or extra credit pre-test so that both you and your students are comfortable with, and know how to access and participate in, BeachBoard’s tests.
- If you will not be allowing multiple attempts, please inform your students of this fact ahead of time.
- Once a test has been deployed, you cannot change a test question or point value without forcing all of your students to retake your test. Double-check your test’s questions and answers before you deploy your test to your students. You can see what your test looks like from a student’s point of view by clicking on the tests link in your course’s Assignments or Course Documents content area.
- BeachBoard Services strongly recommends that you do not choose “Force Completion” when you deploy your test. If a student’s network connection or power fades even temporarily during a ‘force completion’ test, that student will be prevented from completing the test.
- Present your questions one at a time, not all at once. This ensures that if a student’s network connection or power is lost during the test, the student’s answers up to that point will be recorded.
Tips and Tricks for Students
BeachBoard Tests
- If you are on a dial-up connection, open a second web browser window and load a page that automatically reloads every minute or so [examples: http://www.drudgereport.com/ or http://www.huffingtonpost.com/]. Leave this page open in the background and then take your BeachBoard test in another, separate browser window. This ensures that your internet service provider will not accidentally disconnect you for inactivity.
- If you are on a dial-up connection, make sure to disable call waiting before you dial in to take a BeachBoard test.
- Because wireless internet access is not always reliable, refrain from taking BeachBoard tests on any wireless network [including both the campus’ and your home network]. Wired network connections are always better.
- If you have a problem with a quiz, please contact your instructor.
- SUBMIT you test at the end; don’t just click the Save button.
- Don’t close your web browser until you have submitted all of your test answers. Closing your browser could result in your failing the test.
Digital Drop Box
- Make sure to click on Send File and not Add File.
- If, in your Digital Drop box, you see the words "Posted on," that means that you accidentally clicked on Add File instead of Send File. This also means that your instructor did not receive your assignment. To send your assignment to your instructor, click on the Send File button.
