Resolving Log In Problems

Resolving BeachBoard Login Problems

Occasionally, you may encounter an error message when you attempt to login to BeachBoard. If you have never logged in to BeachBoard before, please read the guide Setting up a New BeachBoard Account and Password. The following information is designed for instructors or staff who have successfully logged into BeachBoard and are now encountering login problems.

"Could not login. Valid authentication credentials were not provided."

A "valid authentication credentials were not provided" error message indicates that BeachBoard could not recognize your password. Carefully re-entering your BeachBoard password usually resolves this error. If the error message does not go away,

  • Double-check that you are entering the correct password. Your BeachBoard password is identical to your MyCSULB password.
  • Make sure your keyboard's Caps Lock key is not on. MyCSULB/BeachBoard passwords are case sensitive.

If you are still unable to login to BeachBoard, you have three options:

  1. Go to http://www.csulb.edu/tim/recover.html and recover your MyCSULB/BeachBoard password by following the on-screen instructions.
  2. Visit the Technology Help Desk's Walk-In Service Center in the lobby of the Horn Center and have your MyCSULB/BeachBoard password reset. Please remember to bring your campus ID.
  3. Contact the CSULB Human Resources Information System (HRIS) Helpdesk at (562) 985-7393 and request that they email you a link to reset your MyCSULB/BeachBoard password. This service is only available to CSULB instructors and staff, not students. HRIS will send a password reset email message to your "preferred" email address, the address you or your department previously set for you in MyCSULB.

"An error occurred while the system was processing this login request."

An "error occurred" message means that BeachBoard could not recognize your campus ID. Carefully re-entering your campus ID usually resolves this error. If the error message does not go away, double-check that you are entering your correct campus ID. Your campus ID is the nine digit number immediately beneath your photograph on your campus identification card. Remember: There are no letters in a campus ID. The "0"s in your Campus ID are zeros.

"HTTP Status 500-"

An HTTP status 500 error signifies that your web browser is attempting to load an old, out of date BeachBoard page from your computer's hard drive [your browser's "cache"] rather than loading the latest version of the page directly from BeachBoard. The solution is to clear your browser's cache and then reload the page.

To clear Internet Explorer's cache, go to Tools > Delete Browsing History. Then click the Delete files... button.

To clear Mozilla Firefox's cache, go to Tools > Clear Private Data. Make sure Cache is checked and then click the Clean Private Data Now button.
