instructor quiz tips and tricks

BeachBoard Quiz Tips and Tricks for Instructors:

  • It is helpful if the instructor announces a reminder to the students that the quiz cannot be taken more than once.
  • Instructors should deploy the questions one-by-one, not all at once because if the student closes the browser or looses Internet connectivity, the questions they have answered so far will not be lost.
  • If instructors are planning to use the online quiz feature, it is recommended that students take a "pre-quiz" in order to practice accessing the quiz, become familiar with the question types.  Students should be able to take the quiz multiple times and get access to it well in advance.
  • The instructor should take the quiz themselves before deploying it to the students in order to verify points total, make any content revisions, and correct typos.  Once a student has taken the quiz, very little can be modified.  To take the quiz, go to Control Panel and click on the title of the quiz.

BeachBoard Quiz/SurveyTips and Tricks for Students:

  • Make sure the student's Internet Service Provider (ISP) doesn't disconnect the student from the Web due to inactivity after a short period of time.
  • Wireless Internet access is not always reliable, so try to avoid using wireless Internet access when taking a quiz.
  • Refer to the student's modem or Dial-up Settings documentation to learn how to disable call-waiting or other services that may cause interruption.
  • When a student clicks the link for a quiz and once the student commits to taking the quiz, BeachBoard will not permit students to close the window and enter the quiz again.  If for some reason a student does not complete the quiz, they will not be permitted to enter the quiz again.  Only the instructor can permit a student to access a quiz unless they have permitted multiple attempts.
  • Do not click on the "OK" button more than once.
  • When taking a quiz, make sure the student saves each question.
  • Using the wheel on the mouse may move to the incorrect answer in a selection box.
  • At the end of a quiz, make sure the student Submits the quiz, not just Saves it.
  • Make sure that the student doesn't accidentally close the Web browser in which the quiz resides.
  • Make sure the student reads the quiz directions at the beginning in order to verify whether or not the quiz can be taken more than once.
  • Students should not click on the browsers Back, Forward, Home or Refresh buttons at any time.
