Enrolling Students in a BeachBoard Course

New : Watch a closed captioned movie that shows you how to Enroll Student

BeachBoard Services automatically enrolls students in BeachBoard courses at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester. Student enrollment data comes from MyCSULB. When a student adds or drops a course, that information is automatically pushed to BeachBoard the following day.

Occasionally, though, you may want to manually enroll a student in your BeachBoard course even though that student is not officially enrolled in your course (e.g., you may want to manually enroll a student who received an incomplete in your course the previous semester.) Please be aware that manually enrolling a student in a BeachBoard course does not officially enroll that student in the course. You will not be able to assign that student a grade at the end of the semester until that student officially enrolls in your course through Enrollment Services.

Additionally, University policy prohibits students who either drop or are administratively dropped from your course from being able to access your BeachBoard course content. The only way a dropped student can access your BeachBoard content is for that student to re-enroll in your course through Enrollment Services.

More Information

Q: Can I enroll a guest, additional instructor, or TA in my BeachBoard course?
A: Yes. See enrolling non-CSULB guests in your BeachBoard course and enrolling instructors and TAs in your BeachBoard course.

Q: A student was administratively dropped from my course. The student says she plans to re-enroll later this week but, in the interim, she says she can no longer see my BeachBoard course. Can I re-enable or manually re-enroll her?
A: Unfortunately, no. Once a student drops or is dropped from your University course, that student can access your BeachBoard course only if that student re-enrolls in your course through Enrollment Services. The student will automatically be added to your BeachBoard course approximately 24 hours after she re-enrolls.

Q: I would like to grant access to an old course to a student who was unable to complete the semester. Can I make the course available to this student only?
A: Yes, you have control over this function.

  • If your course is still "Available," access your course's Control Panel > List/Modify Users > search for the student in the class list > click the Properties button located to the right of the student's name > select Yes under "Available (this course only)" > click Submit.  When the student has completed the course work, the instructor should again make the student "Unavailable" in the course.
  • If your course is unavailable, first make it available by clicking on the Control Panel > Settings > Make Course Available > click Yes > Submit.
