Enrolling Non-CSULB Guests in a BeachBoard Course
New : Watch a closed captioned movie that shows you how to enroll guest in a course
In addition to being able to enroll CSULB students in your BeachBoard course, you are also able to invite people outside of the University -- people who are neither enrolled in your course nor have a nine digit campus ID -- to participate in your BeachBoard course. Examples include the following:
- A colleague at another University who may want to "sit in" on your BeachBoard course as a visiting scholar.
- An industry expert who has agreed to be an online, guest speaker in your BeachBoard course.
- A non-matriculated high school student who wants to get an idea of what is required in a college-level course.
Manually enrolling a guest in your BeachBoard course does not officially enroll that guest in your University course. You will not be able to assign that guest a grade at the end of the semester until that guest is officially admitted to the University and enrolls through Enrollment Services.
Enroll a Guest
If your guest already has a CSULB-recognized campus ID or Employee ID (or who will receive one soon) please skip the following instructions and instead read either enrolling students in your BeachBoard course or enrolling other instructors or TAs in your BeachBoard course.
- Invite your guest to request a CSULB "extranet" account at http://www.csulb.edu/lats/itss/Extranet/extranetform.html
- The extranet account request form is a contract between your guest and the University. As such, only your guest can request an extranet account -- you are not allowed to request an account on behalf of your guest.
- Approximately twenty-four hours after requesting an extranet account, your guest will receive an email from the University containing their extranet account ID. Ask your guest to email you this extranet account ID.
- Login to BeachBoard. https://beachboard.csulb.edu/
- Under My Courses, click the name of the course into which you would like to enroll your guest.
- Click the course's Control Panel link.
- Under User Management, click the Enroll User link.
- Type in the guests nine digit extranet account ID in the Search box.
- Choose campus ID in Search by:
- Click the Search button.
- Check the Add checkbox to the left of the name of the guest you wish to enroll.
- Click the Submit button.
