Copying Course Materials to and from Other Courses
New : Watch a closed captioned movie that shows you how to copy course from other course
Once you have uploaded course materials into a BeachBoard course, you can copy those course materials into any other BeachBoard course in which you are an instructor. This means you can:
- Copy course materials from an old BeachBoard course you taught in the past into a new BeachBoard course you are teaching this semester.
- Save time when you are teaching multiple sections of the same course by uploading your content to only one BeachBoard course and then copying that course's content to the other sections' BeachBoard courses.
You must be an instructor in both the BeachBoard course you are trying to copy from and the BeachBoard course you are trying to copy into. In other words, you cannot copy another instructor's BeachBoard course content into one of your BeachBoard courses, nor can you copy your BeachBoard course content into another instructor's BeachBoard course, unless that instructor first makes you an instructor in his or her course.
Copy Course Materials
To copy materials from one BeachBoard course you are teaching into another BeachBoard course in which you are an instructor:
- Login to BeachBoard. https://beachboard.csulb.edu/
- Under My Courses, first, click on the name of the course that contains the course materials you would like to copy into another course.
- Click the Control Panel link.
- ESSENTIAL: Double-check that this is the correct course, i.e., it is the course that contains the source documents you want to copy into another BeachBoard course. If you are in the wrong course, click on the My BeachBoard tab and return to step two.
- Under Course Options, click the Course Copy link.
- Click the Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course link.
- To the right of the Destination Course ID box, click the "Browse" button. This opens a pop-up window.
- In the Search by: box, enter your nine digit campus ID.
- Click the instructor button.
- Click the Search button.
- Locate the new course INTO which you would like to copy your course material, then click the Select button to select that course. [You may need to scroll to the right to see it.]
- Place a checkmark next to the course materials you would like to copy.
- NOTE: DO NOT COPY ENROLLMENTS. Doing so will enroll the students from the course you are copying from into the course you are copying into.
- Click the Submit button.
- BeachBoard will process your request and will email you when the course copy is complete, usually within an hour.
More Information
Q: I can't see the course I'd like to copy from in My Courses. What should I do?
A: First, make sure you are listed as the instructor of the course you want to copy from. Then, to see all the BeachBoard courses you have taught over the past year, click on the My Courses tab at the top of any BeachBoard page. BeachBoard automatically stores your old courses on BeachBoard for one calendar year after the conclusion of that course. After that, the course is removed from BeachBoard and placed in BeachBoard Services' digital archive. You can request that an older, archived course be restored to BeachBoard by filling out a BeachBoard archived course migration request form. BeachBoard Services can only restore courses in which you were the instructor. Restoring an archived BeachBoard course usually takes one business day.
Q: I need to copy course materials from a fellow instructor's course and that instructor is out of the country. Can BeachBoard Services give me access to that instructor's course?
A: No. Giving you access to another instructor's course without that instructor's express, written permission is a violation of University policies and state/federal laws. Only the course's instructor has permission to access that course's materials. Unless that instructor manually makes you an instructor in his or her BeachBoard course, you will not be able to access that instructor's BeachBoard course content.
