Based upon the recommendation of the Office of Academic Technology and the Learning Management System (LMS) Task Force, and after extensive faculty, staff, and student consultation and input, we are pleased to announce that California State University, Long Beach will be adopting a new Learning Management System offered by ANGEL Learning Inc. to operate as BeachBoard.  ANGEL is an acronym for "A New Global Environment for Learning."

The decision to adopt the ANGEL Learning Management System is the result of an extensive vetting process that included the creation of an Ad Hoc LMS Steering Committee and an LMS Evaluation Task Force made up of interested students, faculty, staff, and administrators.  Two learning management systems were evaluated based upon 114 criteria established by the Task Force.  ANGEL Learning, which is used at many large universities nationwide, including Penn State University, Michigan State University, and approximately one half of the State University of New York (SUNY) system campuses, was favored for its intuitive and flexible teaching and learning tools, commitment to openness for customization, compliance with Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) requirements identified by the Office of the Chancellor, ability to integrate with Peoplesoft, and its award-winning technical support.  The attached report offers additional information about the vetting process and the many benefits of ANGEL Learning.

Instructional Technology Support Services will work with students, faculty, and staff to ensure a smooth and seamless migration to ANGEL LMS, which is expected to be fully in place by January 2010.
