Who do they interact/ compete with?
Shovelnose guitarfish, thornback, bat rays and
benthic flatfish all are found in similar
habitats and use similar food resources.
Do they have parasites?
Yes, approximately 19 families and 40 species
are found on or in the round stingray, most
obvious are ectoparasitic copepods and leeches.
Do they move or do they just stay in one
place?
Stingrays have been recaptured almost 5 miles
away from the place they were originally caught,
after 208 days at liberty. Most rays recaptured
have moved between 1-2 nautical miles; however,
recent research in our lab indicates they might
move a lot more than previously thought.
