CIO'S MESSAGE - December 12, 2017

Now Available! Campus Student Virtual Computer Lab (SVL)

As part of our Smart Campus Initiative and in our continuous efforts to improve our technology services, the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) and Academic Technology Services (ATS) have jointly created a virtual computer lab (SVL) for our students. Through the virtual computer lab, our students may access some of the most popular software programs used for classroom instruction and assignments anytime, anywhere, on and off campus. Software programs in the SVL may be accessed and used with most common computing devices, including Windows PCs, Mac computers, Linux workstations, and iOS and Android mobile devices. The SVL will be especially useful for students who may not need to physically visit a campus computer lab to use the campus-licensed software programs.

Currently available software programs in the SVL include ArcGIS, Minitab, MATLAB, SAS, SPSS, and MS Office 2016. We will add other popular software programs to the SVL when appropriate and needed.

Faculty members may access the SVL service at svl.csulb.edu/ by using your campus ID and BeachID password credentials. Please contact DoIT-ServiceManagement@csulb.edu if you would like to request access to SVL for your students.

More information about using the SVL service is available in our IT Knowledge Base article Student Virtual Lab (SVL). Please note that the current virtual student application environment, Beach Apps, will be retired on June 1, 2018.
