Credential Students Costs - Newly Admitted Credential Students

The average expense to attend CSULB (or Cost of Attendance) is broadly defined as the average cost to attend CSULB for one 9-month academic year (the Fall & Spring semesters).  The Cost of Attendance budget helps you and the Financial Aid Office determine approximately how much money you need to attend CSULB, and how much financial aid you need to meet that goal. 

Tuition and fees are paid directly to CSULB, but are only a part of your total education costs.  You also have to budget for room and board (housing and food), books, and transportation. Below are the estimated costs for these items – which, when combined – are your total estimated cost of attendance for one year at CSULB.

Cost of Attendance - California Residents

Below are the tuition and cost estimates for an academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), as of March 23, 2017.  These figures reflect the tuition increase that was approved by the Board of Trustees at their March 22, 2017 board meeting.  Details about the increase can be found at www.calstate.edu/tuition-increase.

Amounts below are based on full-time enrollment (12 units per semester). Less than full-time enrollment , or enrollment in courses not required for your credential program, may change your costs. All costs are subject to change without notice.

The average cost of tuition and fees for the academic year, based on 7+ units per semester enrollment.

Room & Board
The average cost per academic year to live in Long Beach while attending CSULB. Actual costs may vary by individual choices related to location and circumstances. All amounts for Off-Campus assume a roommate.

Books & Supplies
The average cost of books and supplies per academic year.

Transportation
The average cost of travelling to allowance provided to assist students who require transportation to campus from out of town and vice versa, not to maintain a vehicle.

Personal Expenses
The average amount for personal expenses—from clothing and laundry to going to a movie or buying a pizza—each year.

  • The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, CSU must reserve the right, even after fees are initially charged or initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees. All listed fees, other than mandatory systemwide fees, are subject to change without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester or quarter has begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as estimates that are subject to change upon approval by the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, or the Presidents, as appropriate. Changes in mandatory systemwide fees will be made in accordance with the requirements of the Working Families Student Fee Transparency and Accountability Act (Sections 66028 - 66028.6 of the Education Code).

Non-Resident students are assessed an additional $396 per unit in Non-Resident Tuition. The figure shown is based on enrollment in 24 units for the academic year (12 units per semester)
