WPE Prep is a credit/no credit, one-unit course. It meets one or two hours weekly for twelve weeks. Instructors typically are graduate students in English or linguistics. Students may enroll in more than one section simultaneously. Each course may be repeated until the WPE is successfully passed. Enrollment is through IVR (Interactive Voice Registration) at (562) 985-2500. Non-matriculated students must enroll through Open University by completing a registration form available from University College and Extension Services.
WPE 10 is a basic review for students who have previously failed the WPE with a score of 8 or below. The class addresses various issues in composition, such as generating ideas for content, becoming familiar with paragraph/essay structure and learning test taking strategies.

WPE 020 is meant to help students who have not yet attempted the WPE or who have previously failed the test with a score of 9 or 10. It is designed to review the essay and to develop and strengthen writing skills.
