Office of Program Review
Division of Student Services
The Division of Student Services is committed to providing a process for assessment of its programs and service areas. Through a review and feedback process, the Office of Program Review provides a forum for discussion and change to program managers and staff. The program review process allows a program or service area to determine how effective it has been in meeting its stated goals and objectives and addressing the needs of its target population.
The program review process is a collaboration between the program or service area being reviewed and the Office of Program Review. The manager and staff of the program are involved in developing a structure for the review. This structure researches and considers current trends in the discipline, and results in a methodology that is unique to the program for the purpose of gathering survey and focus group data.
Subsequently, a random selection of students or program users is surveyed to determine attitudes and perceptions regarding the quality of the program in question. Focus groups are conducted to provide feedback concerning the relevance of various program components. Faculty and community interests and concerns are noted.
The final result of the process is a comprehensive report that includes student and staff input and reflections as well as information which reflects the most current thought and analysis in the field gathered from a literature review. The final report, presented to the Vice President for Student Services and the manager or the program or service area, may then be used to improve the overall quality of services and activities or, more importantly, to confirm the continued need for the program.
A presentation is made to the program staff by the program review coordinator once the final report is approved. The program or service area manager has up to one year to report to the Vice President for Student Services on how the information was utilized.
Every academic year, one or more reviews of Student Services Division programs are scheduled.
