West County Connectors Project Will Impact CSULB

In a partnership with CalTrans, the Orange County Transportation Authority has announced plans to close, refurbish and replace several connecting lanes on the 22, 405 and 605 freeways in early 2010. The endeavor, known as the West County Connectors Project will link carpool lanes on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) with those on the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) and San Gabriel Freeway (I-605) to create seamless carpool connections between the freeways.

The project will require closing the 7th Street Bridge for 12 months, the Garden Grove Freeway/northbound 405 connectors for 10 months, the southbound 605/southbound 405 connectors for two weeks and the east Garden Grove Freeway/southbound 405 connectors for two weeks.

The portion of the project that will have the greatest impact on CSULB employees and students will be the 7th Street Bridge, which serves drivers traveling north on the 405 and transitioning onto the westbound 22. That area is projected to close during summer 2010 and is slated to reopen one year later.

Suggested detour routes and other details about this project will be publicized as they become available. More information may be obtained at www.octa.net/westcounty.aspx.
