CSULB Receives Accolades
CSULB continues to receive high rankings among colleges and universities in the United States. In the last year, the university has been cited in a number of rankings and lists:
US News & World Report’s 2009 Edition of
“America’s Best Colleges Guide"
- CSULB ranked among the top five public compre- hensive universities in the Western United States for the fifth consecutive year.
- CSULB rated as the 25th best among more than 115 western public and private masters’ universities listed in the guide’s top four tiers.
- CSULB listed third in the West and eighth in the nation for having the lowest percentage of students graduating with debt (less than 30 percent of CSULB students carry debt upon graduation).
- CSULB’s College of Engineering ranked as one of the nation’s best undergraduate engineering programs.

- CSULB named among “Best in the West.”
- CSULB ranked among the top 50 best value public colleges in the nation.
The Chronicle of Higher Education
- CSULB ranked second in the nation among master’s degree-granting institutions in producing Fulbright Awards for U.S. students in 2008-09.
Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
- CSULB named to the 2008 Community Engagement Classification for how well the university aligns community engagement with its institutional mission, resources and practices.
Diverse Issues in Higher Education’s 2009 Report on the Nation’s “Top 100 Degree Producers”
- CSULB ranked eighth in the nation in conferring bachelor’s degrees to minority students.
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities
- CSULB recognized as one of 219 Hispanic-Serving Institutions in the United States (2006).
Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education
- CSULB listed among the “Top 25” universities that enroll the most Hispanic graduate students and award the most master’s degrees to this community.
Security Magazine
- CSULB selected as the fifth “most secure” universi- ty in the nation in its annual “Security 500” rankings, and was the top California campus on the list.
National Science Foundation’s “Annual Survey of Earned Doctorates”
- CSULB has the highest number of graduates among master’s universities who went on to earn research doctorate degrees in science or engi- neering between 1997 and 2006.
