Cal-SOAP College Access Scholarship

We will be awarding 69 scholarships to eligible high school seniors who will attend college in California during the 2008-2009 academic year: 48 scholarships of $1,000 to attend community college, 16 scholarships of $2,000 to attend a four-year university/college, and 5 scholarships of $500 for students who apply through the Youth Opportunity Center of Long Beach. In order to apply, all you have to do is complete the application form, respond to the essay question written on the application, and submit it for review. Download the Scholarship Information Form for a complete description of the contest and eligibility requirements. The deadline to submit the application is March 31, 2008.

Cal-SOAP College Access Renewal Scholarship

Were you the recipient of a Cal-SOAP scholarship in 2007? If so, you can apply for the Cal-SOAP College Access Renewal Scholarship to fund your next year of college. We will be awarding 15 scholarships of $1,000 to selected individuals who will continue their education at a California Community College and seven scholarships of $2,500 to selected individuals who will continue their education at a 4-year college or university. To apply download the Renewal Scholarship Application, complete the application, write the essay and send it in by the March 31, 2008 deadline.

College Prep Scholarship (This deadline has passed. Check again next year.)

QuestBridge is offering several scholarships to help students make better, informed decisions when choosing and planning for college. The following are a couple examples of the College Prep Scholarships: the College Summer School Program scholarship (covers the full of cost of summer tuition, travel expenses, and room and board to Harvard, Nortre Dame, Standford, or Yale during the summer) and the Individualized College Admissions Counseling scholarship (awards eight hours of personalized college counseling and phone or e-mail advisement throughout the college admissions process). Upromise Scholarship (This deadline has passed. Check again next year.)

Upromise is offering 100 scholarships of $2,500 to graduating high school seniors or currently-enrolled college students for the academic year of 2008-2009. Applicants must be Upromise members or children of Upromise members (membership is free), have a household income of $65,000 or less, have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent residents, submit the application by the February 25, 2008 deadline, and meet other eligibility criteria listed on the the Upromise website. Future Engineering Majors

AICHE Minority Scholarship Awards for Incoming Freshmen

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers is offering ten awards of $1,000 to high school schools who are racially underrepresented in the field of chemical engineering. To be eligible for this award, students must have a 3.0 grade point average, be planning to enroll in a four-year college or university that offers a science/engineering degree, complete the application, and submit several documents (official transcripts, parental letter verifying financial need, essay, and letter of recommendation) by the May 15, 2008 deadline. NASA MUST Scholarship (This deadline has passed. Check again next year.)

The MUST Program is offering a scholarship that awards up to one-half of a student's tuition and fees to underrepresented students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math. Applicants must reside in the U.S., be studying full-time at an accredited college or university, have maintained a grade point average of at least a 3.0, and meet other eligibility requirements. Future Math & Science Majors

AHETEMS General Scholarships for Undergraduates (This deadline has passed. Check again next year.)

The scholarship offered by AHETEMS (Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science) does not require recipients to be U. S. citizens in order to win an award amount of $1,000 to $3,000. By the April 1, 2008 deadline, high school seniors of Hispanic decent who intend to pursue degrees in either science, technology, engineering, or math and who meet additional eligibility requirements (i.e. having maintained 3.0 grade point average) must submit an application, personal statement, transcript, and letter of recommendation. The American Meterogological Society is awarding a $3,000 - $6,000 scholarship to minority students who will begin their freshmen year of college in the fall of 2008 and who plan to pursue a degree in the atmospheric or related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. Applicants must be legal residents or U. S. citizens. Applications, which include an application form, official high school transcripts, a letter of recommendation, and a copy of SAT scores (or similar national college entrance exam scores), must be postmarked by the February 8, 2008 deadline. APS Scholarship for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors (This deadline has passed. Check again next year.)

The American physical Society is awarding $2,000 to $3,000 to African American, Hispanic American, or Native American high school seniors, college freshmen, and/or sophomores who are majoring or plan to major in physics. There is no grade point average requirement; however, applicants must be legal permanent residents or U. S. citizens and submit an application package (application form, responses to essay questions, letters of reference, and SAT or ACT scores) by February 1, 2008 to be eligible. Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders (This deadline has passed. Check again next year.)

The United States Hispanic Leadership Institute is offering a $1,000 scholarship to students of Hispanic descent who demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student in a four-year institution in the U.S. or U.S. territories, submit a cover page, background information, leadership essay, transcript, resume, picture, and letters of reference for consideration as well as meet additional requirements.
