Where are they now?

After years of service and commitment to excellence, former ASI officers and alums are continuing to improve our community and society everyday. From lawyers to chief justices and everything in between, they still provide a great service and dedication for social change. Do you ever wonder where our alums are now? Jane Barrett ‘69

While at CSULB: Senator

Accomplishments after college:  Barrett is a partner at Piper Rudnick LLP International Law Firm.  She was the first woman elected to the American Bar Association’s Board of Governors, and is a past president of the American Bar Endowment.


Jerry Felsenthal ‘66

While at CSULB:  Senator

Accomplishments after college:  Felsenthal is a building developer and served as a member of the Planning Commission for the City of Beverly Hills.

Michael Hanna ‘67

While at CSULB: Associate Justice, Senator

Accomplishments after college:  Hanna is an attorney.

John F. Johnston ‘66

While at CSULB: Senator, AS Vice-President, AS President

Accomplishments after college:  Johnston is the Chief Administrative Officer for the County of Ventura.


Dennis Murray ‘68

While at CSULB: Senator, AS Vice-President, AS President

Accomplishments after college:  Murray has been the President and Professor of Public Policy at Marist College in New York since 1979.

Mary Montgomery Stanton '65

While at CSULB: Senator, BA Elementary Education Accomplishments after college:  Member of the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education, District 1 - 1990 to present, 3 times serving as President of the Board.

Robert Swansbrough ‘60

While at CSULB: AS President

Accomplishments after college:  Swansbrough is the Associate Dean of Arts & Sciences, University of Tennessee

George Salmas ‘71

While at CSULB: Associate Justice

Accomplishments after college:  Salmas is an attorney for the Salmas Law Group, a business law firm in Los Angeles.


Christopher Woodyard ‘78

Dwayne Adams ‘81

While at CSULB: Chief Justice

Accomplishments after college:  President & Chief Executive Officer, Lonestar Financial Corporation in San Antonio, Texas.

Mary Bodnar ‘89

While at CSULB: Associate Justice

Accomplishments after college:  Judge Advocate General for the United States Navy Reserve

Kurt Borsting '88

While at CSULB: AS Administrator Accomplishments after college: Borsting is the Director of the Student Union at California State University, Fullerton.


Paul Griffo ‘82

While at CSULB: Editor, Long Beach Union Newspaper

Izumi Hara ‘82

While at CSULB:  AS President

Accomplishments after college:  Hara serves as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Warner Chilcott Limited.


David Myers ‘85

Accomplishments after college:  Myers is a partner in the Leist Law Group, LLP.

Accomplishments after college: Harvey is the Chief Coroner Investigator and Chief of Operations for the County of Los Angeles Department of Coroner; 2005-Present - Fellow, American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators, 2007-Present - elected to the Executive Board of the California State Coroner's Association

Joel S. Oiknine '81

While at CSULB :   AS Judiciary Accomplishments after college :  Graduated from University of California, Hastings College of the Law (Class of 1984 ) ;   Former Deputy Public Defender in  both  Los Angeles and Orange Counties;   Currently: Solo Criminal Defense Attorney in Manhattan Beach,  CA, specializing in the defense of those arrested for DUI's

Keith Taylor* ‘85

Accomplishments after college:  Navy Lt. Cmdr. Keith E. died in a rocket et attack on the Embassy in Baghdad on January 29, 2005.
