Romantic Gestures from the Boys on Campus

As I begin to procrastinate about my future beyond Cal State Long Beach, I realize that there is/are a lot of things to do.  Well guess what… this is not the week for me to figure it out. Instead I plan on doing two more weeks of pure procrastination, wish me luck!

On to this week’s blog topic:

When I first started dating my boyfriend he made me a mixed CD with songs that both he and I liked. I know cheesy and sweet, well one of the songs just happened to be “Melissa” by the Allman Brothers. I thought it was one of the sweetest and most wonderful things my boyfriend could have ever done. I felt special and appreciated because he took the time to find a song with my name in it.

Well today I found out that apparently that’s a usual occurrence for boys to look up songs for the ladies they are interested in. So I decided to be a reporter and ask the boys around me something romantic they did for a girl that might border on cheesy…

Ramon Castillo: “Placed Hershey kisses in a heart-shape on her desk.”

Joel: “I wrote a 7-page letter to this girl telling her my feelings about her… she said yes!”

Dennis: “When I was little I stole a flower pot from someone’s house and then placed it on her doorstep.”

Aaron: “Walked a girl home and while we were talking, I broke out into song!”

Dan: “In the third grade I pushed a girl and stuck my tongue out at her… it was love at first sight.”

Abel: “In high school I was on an escalator at the mall and saw this girl, when I got to the top I went back down just to see her and we did this loop thing where we just kept getting on the escalator and smiling at each other as we passed.”

I later asked the girl’s some cheesy things guys have done for them.

Sarah: “He bought me a Happy Meal for McDonalds, after I told him how much I missed getting the toy and the bag.”

Caroline: “This guy wrote me a really lame poem about how beautiful he thought I was… it was a little creepy.”

Shefali: “This guy told me he was dedicating a poem to me and then he went to go perform it on stage… needless to say it wasn’t very appropriate.”

Meli Duque

Who is Meli The Gr8?

When she is not posing next to trees, Meli Duque uses her time to trick unknowing freshmen into giving all their time to ASI.

The self-proclaimed Beach Guru is a super-senior who has been involved, one way or another, in almost every type of organization on campus, which includes writing for both school newspapers (when that was allowed), joining a sorority, campaigning for student government, and even rowing on the women's crew team (it only lasted two weeks). Now she stays chained to a desk in ASI Communications where she writes, edits and awaits her chance to escape into the "real world" this spring.
