Come and get your study on here on-campus! |
Study places!
Over the past couple of weeks my blogs have varied in topic and motives. I have written on articles about recent graduates, to volunteerism, and American Idol. Now as its getting down to the wire and I it's crunch time for many students with their finals and papers that may be due, I thought it would be appropriate to give out a few of my favorite studying locations around campus.
First off, it is not the library but the University Student Union. There are two places I recommend to anyone interested in having group meetings: the music listening lounge, and the meeting rooms on the second floor. The music listening lounge may be quite loud for many students but it’s the booths that I am referring to. The booths offer space for meeting groups to brainstorm projects or practice a group presentation. Not that many people look in the booths so if you are standing in front of your group going over your note cards, no one is going to look at you funny. The second are the meeting rooms located on the second floor of the USU. They are quiet and in a sheltered part of the USU where there isn't too much traffic. What is even better is that students can reserve a meeting room in the USU without having to be a member of an organization. Instead of you walking around campus looking for an empty classroom you can go the USU Conference and Events center and reserve a space. It really gives that professional feeling when you practice doing a presentation or get a couple of your fellow classmates and you can make flashcards and be prepared for that huge test in Biology.
The next place on campus I recommend if you are just reading a book is outside. I know that isn't a great answer but there is a lot of green grass around campus where you can just sit down and enjoy the weather and read that book. I would normally say to go to the central quad on upper campus (in-between the LA buildings and the Art buildings) but since graduation is coming up that area will most likely be filled with noise and construction to get ready for my big day. I hear from a friend of mine a good patch of grass is available near the dance and music buildings across from the baseball and soccer fields. At least that is where she is whenever I call her and she says she's reading.
Last off is the Horn center, but only late at night. During the day it is packed with loud people trying to do their last minute work and in need of a computer to print. At night the atmosphere changes where people are there dedicated to studying. Last semester during finals, I could be found there almost every night, and about half hour to closing I would be going insane and humming “Eye of the Tiger.” The Horn center is definitely a dedicated student studying ground. The best part is that parking is at least convenient enough where you're close by. Not like the library where it's in another country.
Also, good reminders on what you need to study: pen, pencil, computer, books, candy, water and your brain. You might have everything together and ready to go but if your brain isn't there I recommend taking a nap and trying again when you are ready to cooperate. Have a great week.

Who is Meli The Gr8?When she is not posing next to trees, Meli Duque uses her time to trick unknowing freshmen into giving all their time to ASI. The self-proclaimed Beach Guru is a super-senior who has been involved, one way or another, in almost every type of organization on campus, which includes writing for both school newspapers (when that was allowed), joining a sorority, campaigning for student government, and even rowing on the women's crew team (it only lasted two weeks). Now she stays chained to a desk in ASI Communications where she writes, edits and awaits her chance to escape into the "real world" this spring. |
