ASI STREET TEAM -- Your Student Connection! |
I am very fortunate to be a part of a cool group on campus called the ASI Street Team. Why should you care? Well because the ASI Street Team will get you all the info you need about what’s happening around the Associated Students, Inc. both during the day and when the moon comes up!
Now we all know that I have been on this campus for sometime. I have also been a part of ASI in some form or another for about the same time. The biggest concern I have always had is that not enough students know about all the things we offer, such as concerts, movies, workshops, study space and candy. The ASI Street Team is like a crew that tells students about all the programs and services offered by ASI.
If you live in the dorms you most likely have seen us at the dining halls with music, info and the free stuff we have passed out. One night we even had a poet performing to give students sort of a taste of the upcoming Poetry Slam and Poet’s Lounge event held later that week.
Another spot you can find the ASI Street Team is at the bottom of the escalators in the University Student Union. We usually set up tables there to pass out flyers and coupons to students. So, if you have a question about what is going on in ASI or any of the departments that are a part of the ASI family (the University Student Union, Beach Pride Center, USU Program Council, AS Recylcing Center, etc.) then you can ask someone there.
Here are a few of the FAQs (frequently asked questions) I’ve gotten and my answers…
All of your rooms in the USU, if not reserved by a student organization, can be used to study in. Just look at the sign outside the door to see if anyone is using it!
K-Beach! It is our student run radio station. You can not only hear the music in our building, but you can also check out their website www.kbeach.org. Oh and they are also the ones who put on the Thursday Night Concerts in the Nugget.
If it’s a sneak preview then no its free with a CSULB student ID, but you have to make sure to pick up tickets from USU Program Council office on the first floor of the USU. When they show older movies it is $2, but that’s definitely worth it to see some great and funny classics on a huge screen!
Remember the ASI Street Team is your student connection, so if you want to know more check us out. And hey if you like what we do come and join us!

Who is Meli The Gr8?When she is not posing next to trees, Meli Duque uses her time to trick unknowing freshmen into giving all their time to ASI. The self-proclaimed Beach Guru is a super-senior who has been involved, one way or another, in almost every type of organization on campus, which includes writing for both school newspapers (when that was allowed), joining a sorority, campaigning for student government, and even rowing on the women's crew team (it only lasted two weeks). Now she stays chained to a desk in ASI Communications where she writes, edits and awaits her chance to escape into the "real world" this spring. |
