You will be given referrals to on- or off-campus crisis services depending on your situation.
An advocate from off-campus service will support you in your requests and may even accompany you wherever you choose to go.
Printed material about sexual assault, domestic and relationship violence and stalking is available for you.
You will be in a safe and supportive environment in the WRC Lounge and offices.
* The first person you talk to will ask about your safety at that moment, and then introduce you to a crisis advocate in the WRC. If you are hurt or in danger, appropriate arrangements for your safety and well-being will be made immediately.
You will not be judged or blamed for something you did not ask for or deserve.
Officers will meet with you, and a friend if you wish, at a location of your choice within our area.
We will be willing listeners and treat you with understanding, sensitivity, and respect.
The services of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) can be provided to you at no cost. Advocate information for both on and off campus resources will be provided.
We will fully investigate your assault and keep you informed throughout the entire investigation process. We will be available to answer questions and explain the process as needed, whether the assault is by a stranger, a partner, an acquaintance, or alcohol-related.
If you've been the victim of a crime it's important to report it. We know that sometimes it's not easy to decide to come forward. But we also know that if no one reports a crime it's as if it never happened.
The medical staff evaluates any injuries and will refer you to other medical facilities for appropriate treatment, such as the Long Beach Community Hospital, and the SART or DART program (see "Definitions" page).
If deemed necessary, SHC clinicians provide appropriate STI and/or HIV testing, as well as provide the emergency contraceptive pill and/or pregnancy test.
As mandated reporters, clinicians inform you of your choice to report or not to report a sexual assault.
A SHS health educator/sexual assault counselor will provide further resources for assistance both on and off campus.
All survivors of sexual assault receive a "Building A Bridge of Communication" folder with facts about sexual assault, your rights as a survivor, a description of the phases of rape trauma syndrome, and community resources specializing in sexual assault counseling, such as the YWCA Sexual Assault Crisis Program.
If you need immediate or same day attention, you can come to CAPS and meet with an on-call counselor during regular office hours, Monday through Friday (although most available services are on an appointment basis).
Your counselor will listen to you, explore options with you, and help you identify an appropriate course of action to meet your needs.
Your counselor may offer individual counseling, group counseling, or make a referral to an outside service provider that better fits your needs.
The Counseling staff is experienced and sensitive to issues of stalking, sexual assault and relationship violence.
Counselors are mental health professionals who are committed to your well being, both personally and academically
All services are confidential and are available at no cost to CSULB students who are currently enrolled.
