Academic Year Services

After School Tutoring

Tutors are available to meet with you closer to home if you:

live far from campus and cannot get there on time
are in an after school activity that prevents you from coming to tutorials during regular hours
are at a high school not served by on-campus tutoring.

Tutors will meet students for tutoring appointments in public places where studying/tutoring can be effective. To request a regular tutoring appointment in your community contact Jamie Johnson at (562) 985-7557. A parent conference may be required prior to making arrangements.

After School Tutorial Sessions

The Upward Bound Tutorial Center will be open for extended hours on Mondays (3:00 pm - 6:30 pm) for Game Night. Join us to play games, and meet new friends and get your week off to a good start. Taco Tuesday (3:00 pm - 6:30 pm) feature $1.00 tacos, and Wednesday (3:00 pm - 6:30 pm) is "Mid-week Meltdown" when we melt down nachos or have some snack. On Thursdays, the center is open (3:00 pm - 7:00 pm) for end-of-week exams and papers.

Saturday Tutorial Sessions

Upward Bound offers 20 tutorial sessions a year; 10 in the fall semester and 10 in the spring semester. The purpose of the sessions is to provide the students with tutoring services in any subject in which they may need assistance. A homework room is also provided for students so they have the opportunity to study and complete their assignments in a studious environment.

Workshops

Upward Bound offers various workshops throughout the academic year. The purpose of the workshops is to enhance the student's intellect academically and culturally. Some examples of the workshops are as follows:

Field Trips
