One of the best opportunities to become an active part of the campus community is by meeting new people, gaining leadership experience, and furthering your educational or extracurricular interests by joining a student organization. CSULB has more than 300 recognized student organizations, representing 12 diverse categories:
The college councils offer professional guest speakers, career-related seminars, academic competitions and student-faculty events. Students thus gain the opportunity to meet and network with others of similar majors, alumni, and professionals from the fields in which they are interested. There are seven academic colleges at CSULB: Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Health and Human Services, Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
These organizations create opportunities for students to explore career interests while developing professional networks.
Cultural organizations sponsor and coordinate some of the most visible and popular campus programs. These events foster multiculturalism and an appreciation of diversity for CSULB students and the local community.
These organizations focus on the artistic and recreational activities that promote individual learning, skill development and group interaction.
These organizations work collaboratively with student services departments to support student success, retention and graduation, while also connecting with students within particular majors.
Fraternities and Sororities have a strong and spirited presence on campus. Greeks are highly active in campus programs, philanthropic projects and community service. There are four coordinating Greek Councils: Cultural Greek Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Penhellenic Council.
Honor societies have criteria-based membership, which is usually based on academic performance.
These organizations focus on political and social issues at the local and national levels. Students learn to think seriously about politics and how engagement in the political process impacts society.
