Leadership Resource Center Receives National Award

The Lois J. Swanson Leadership Resource Center submitted the Leadership Academy program for consideration by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators for its annual excellence awards competition. NASPA recognizes contributions that are transforming higher education through outstanding programs, innovative services and effective administration. NASPA encourages all universities to enter recently developed and/or longstanding programs and initiatives for consideration for this prestigious award.

The Leadership Academy was selected as the Silver Award winner in the Student Union, Student Activities, Greek Life, Leadership and related programs and services category of the NASPA Excellence Awards. This means the Leadership Academy was designated as second out of a national pool of program entries for this category.

As a result of winning this award, the LRC program will:

  • Receive NASPA Excellence Awards Certificate of Silver.
  • Receive national recognition through the NASPA Forum.
  • Be included for two years in a collection of winning entries on the NASPA Excellence Awards Web resource center.
  • Receive letters of commendation from NASPA to the institution’s president and senior student affairs officer.

The team at the LRC sees this recognition as a positive first step. Matt Palmer, program coordinator and four-year student employee of the center, says, “this is the first of many future awards the center will receive. We plan to expand our services through innovative programs to benefit students, faculty and staff.” —Jeffrey Klaus is director of Student Life and Development.
