Facilitator of the Year: Captain Stan Skipworth

Captain Stan Skipworth
Captain Stan Skipworth

C aptain Stan Skipworth contributes to CSULB in many ways. A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Skipworth acts as the assistant chief of University Police, working to keep our campus the safest in the CSU system. He has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience and was recently elected to the city council in Corona. In addition to all these activities, Skipworth remains one of our most committed Leadership Academy facilitators.

Skipworth has created many of the Leadership Academy’s elective workshops such as The River Game; Morale, Motivation and Momentum; The Courageous Follower; and Leadership: Dealing with Cynicism. These workshops not only earned Leadership Academy students’ highest praises, but countless requests for the Captain to facilitate additional workshops. The students’ opinion is what earned Skipworth the recognition of Facilitator of the Year at the Celebration of Leadership on May 19, 2006.

When asked to say a word about his involvement in the Leadership Academy, Skipworth said, “I just love working with students.” The Leadership Resource Center is fortunate to have people like Captain Skipworth, who are committed to student success outside the classroom. —Rebekah Smith is coordinator of the Lois J.
