Thank you to all the participants for the year of 2009!
The CSULB Pacific Islander Association has been an active organization at CSULB for many years. The goal of the club is to create an environment that allows for encouragement and fellowship within higher education for students of Pacific Islander decent and those who have interest in the Pacific Islander culture. Some of the events they organize include a High school Outreach, a day-long series of workshops to encourage the importance of higher education for high school students from the local Long Beach community attend; a Luau, a traditional Hawaiian dinner and show; and a May Day celebration that observes the "aloha" spirit. This year they began a new tradition and had a Film Festival that displayed an array of independent films that pertained to different aspects of the Pacific Islands and its people. Through these various events they are able raise awareness and stir interest about the Polynesian culture, people, and traditions.
The Graduation Reception will consist of dinner, acknowledgement of graduates (presentation of Sashes), a guest speaker (alumni of CSULB), presentation of 2009-2010 Pacific Islander Officers, and fellowship.
