Agatha Gucyski with bonnie Lownthal

On October 9, ASI Treasurer Agatha Gucyski, was selected by Assembly Member Bonnie Lowenthal to receive one of her “30 Women Under 30” awards. This recognition is for outstanding young women who are working to improve theircommunity.

 

In November, students from the Disabled Student Services program worked with volunteers from Mitsubishi Electric to install a donated solar electric system on the roof of a North Long Beach home. GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization that works with volunteers to install solar electric systems for low-income families, led the installation. Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation, whose mission is to help youth with disabilities maximize their potential and participation in society, provided a grant to GRID Alternatives.

 

Leidy Partida

 

Congratulations to Leidy Partida, a student in the College Assistance Migrant Program who was selected to present her research, “The Effects of Angry Rumination on Illegal Drug Crime,” at the 39th Annual Forensic Mental Health Association of California conference March 19-21 in Monterey. CAMP is a federally funded program that assists students who are migratory or seasonal farmworkers (or children of such workers) enrolled in undergraduate studies.

On March 3, the Associated Students, Inc. and the Feminist Organization Reclaiming Consciousness and Equality sponsored a multimedia lecture from American educator, filmmaker and author Jackson Katz on "Blurred Lines: Sex and Violence in Media and Real Life." The event also featured guests from the YWCA-GLA Sexual Assault Crisis Services, WomenShelter of Long Beach and Center for the Pacific Asian Family.
