Men's Health

Nutrition & Fitness

  • It is recommended that a man eat 5 to 9 cups of fruits and vegetables every day.
  • A combination of aerobic exercise (e.g., running, swimming, tennis, etc.) and anaerobic exercise (e.g., lifting weights, yoga) would be a good plan for being physically fit.
  • For general health maintenance, it is recommended that everyone exercise at least 3 to 4 times per week.

Safety & Injuries

  • Wearing a seatbelt can increase the chance of surviving a car accident by more than 40%.
  • Sunscreen or sunblock should be put on the body 30 minutes before going out in the sun to prevent burning and sun damage.

Reproductive Health

  • A man should perform a testicular self examination once per month.
  • The symptoms of testicular cancer include the following:
    • Painless lump or swelling in a testicle.
    • Any enlargement of a testicle or change in the way it feels.
    • A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum
    • A dull ache in the lower abdomen, back or groin
  • If Chlamydia (a sexually transmitted infection) is not treated, it could result in infertility.
  • Wearing a latex condom when having sex can lower the chance of being infected with HIV or a sexually transmitted infection.

Alcohol, Tobacco & Drugs

  • BAC means Blood Alcohol Concentration.
  • If you are 21 and over, the blood alcohol concentration legal limit is 0.08 when driving in California.
  • Effects of marijuana use include the following:
    • Short term memory loss
    • Poor depth perception
    • Slowed reflexes
    • Paranoia or anxiety
    • Cigarette smoking can cause erectile dysfunction.
