Well Woman Exam

What you need to know before your examination:

  1. Avoid putting anything in your vagina for 2 days prior to the appointment. This means: no sexual activity, no douching, no vaginal cream, and no tampons.
  2. Try not to schedule your Well Woman Exam during your period. If you get your period, please call and reschedule your appointment.
  3. There may be costs involved with your Well Woman Exam, such as laboratory tests. The following are the prices for Pap tests and STI testing:
    • Pap test = $31.50
    • Chlamydia and gonorrhea = $12.40
    • If you choose to have other sexually transmitted infection tests done, you will have to request these and there may be more charges for each test. Please ask your medical provider during your appointment if you have more questions or want more tests done.
    • If your Pap test results are abnormal, then an extra $30.16 may be charged in order to further analyze your cervical cell sample for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). You will be notified by if this occurs.
  4. It is strongly recommended that you attend a free, informational workshop in the Health Resource Center (Room 268 of the SHS) prior to your appointment, especially if this is your first Well Woman Exam. This short workshop is called the Sexual Health Awareness Workshop (SHAW) and is offered many times throughout the week. Call (562) 985-4609 to schedule an appointment. You are welcome to bring your partner or friends. Click on this link for more information about SHAW.
  5. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. Give yourself about 1 hour for the entire appointment.
