Appointments at Counseling and Psychological Services

Make an Appointment

To arrange an appointment, you may telephone (562) 985-4001 or come to the center, which is on the second floor in Brotman Hall, Room 226. The Front Office Supervisor will offer you the first available appointment times and a session will be scheduled for you to speak with a counselor as soon as possible.

It is best to call the center as early as possible in the semester if you anticipate that you may want a series of counseling sessions.

First Appointment Intake

To schedule an intake appointment, come to our office in Brotman Hall, Room 226, or call (562) 985-4001. Plan to arrive fifteen minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete necessary paperwork. During your first visit with us, an intake counselor will listen to your concerns, explore options with you, and help you identify an appropriate course of action to meet your needs.

Regular Appointments

Counseling appointments begin on the hour and last 50 minutes. You can help us provide the best possible service by arriving on time for your appointments and by canceling or rescheduling appointments as early as possible when an appointment must be missed.

Crisis Appointments

Crisis intervention is available during office hours (8:00 - 5:00, M-F). For urgent on-campus emergencies outside of office hours, please contact the University Police at (562) 985-4101.

Fees

Basic CAPS services are provided at no charge to registered undergraduate and graduate students for the semester in which they are interested in seeking our services. There is a limit to the number of individual counseling sessions for any student in any given year.
