  • Intensively Served Students are defined as: A student is considered intensively served if the student received or participated in at least three (3) intensive activities during the fiscal year.
  • Generally Served Students are defined as: A student is considered to generally served if the student does not qualify as intensively served as defined above.

Middle School Target: Grades 7 & 8

Students grades 7 & 8 will receive information and services primarily through academic tutoring, classroom presentations, intensive workshops, College Career Information Day (link) and the College Making it Happen (link) parent events.

Services: 

Algebra & Pre-Algebra Tutoring

An Algebra Tutor will be provided to work in eighth grade classrooms to assist students at risk of not passing Algebra or Pre-algebra.

“College Making It Happen” Family Events

College Making It Happen is a family event that provides parents, students and their families with information on how to prepare for college early, explains financial aid options and gives tips on supporting their child’s academic success.  College Making It Happen is an evening event including speakers in Spanish and English, workshops on college and financial aid information.  Local college representatives are also invited to speak about their colleges, answer specific questions and staff display tables.   • Classroom Intensive Workshop series & Classroom presentations: Each series provides 3 consecutive workshops in a classroom setting delivered by a team of college student advisors who work with students in small groups providing hands-on activities and personalized attention.
    • “Start Thinking College Now” – Intro to college systems, A-G courses, & financial aid
    • “Study Skills & Test Taking” – study skills, mnemonics, time management & test taking techniques
  • “Start Thinking College Now” School Assembly: School Assembly auditorium presentations on Start Thinking College Now can be scheduled throughout the year.  Cal-SOAP is a consortium of colleges and schools therefore we invite our college partners from local community colleges, UCI & CSULB to present at the assembly along with current college students who can share their experiences & tips for preparing early.
  • CSULB College Career Information Day student conference: College Career Information Day is a conference for middle school students held at CSULB each year to help students to begin considering different career and college options as explained by working professionals & college students in various fields.
