Testing, Evaluation & Assessment functions as the primary assessment office for the Division of Student Services and the University. Data collection, analyses, and dissemination occur through its testing, evaluation, and assessment programs.
The department administers national tests for college admissions (SAT Reasoning Test and the ACT), CSU tests for placement into college-level English and mathematics courses (Entry Level Mathematics test, English Placement Test, and the Early Assessment Program), the Collegiate Learning Assessment for critical writing skills as part of the Voluntary System of Accountability, and campus-based tests (Writing Proficiency Exam for certifying writing proficiency and Chemistry IIIA for placement in the course).
Its large-scale assessment programs include the Annual Freshman Survey of the Cooperative Institutional Research Program and the CSULB Student Satisfaction Survey. The department partners with Institutional Research & Assessment to interpret and disseminate findings of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).
Finally, Testing, Evaluation & Assessment collaborates with numerous campus entities and departments in the Division of Student Services to maintain this website of assessment findings.
