Sign up as a Free Agent and play against others. All levels of play are welcome. Play consists of Singles, Doubles (Men & Women), and some Mixed Doubles. There is also Tournament play at the end of the semester.
Players listed on the Free Agents Roster and are current CSULB Students, Faculty and Staff Members are eligible to participate in intramural tennis. All players must meet the eligibility participation requirements of the CSULB Intramural Sports program.
Pre-match warm-up will be limited to 5 minutes for each of the initial sets with 3 minutes allotted for the final mixed doubles set. This procedure will be strictly enforced.
Games will be played under no-add scoring rules…first to win four points wins the game. In tie game scores of 3-3, the player receiving service will indicate to the server in which court he/she wishes to receive service. In mixed doubles play when tied at 3-3, men will serve to men and women will serve to women. Next point wins.
Sets will be six-game sets…first to win six games…you must win by two games. Tie sets (6-6) will be decided by a nine-point tiebreaker. The person who is next to serve begins the tiebreaker. Each player serves two points in succession starting from the deuce court. Players change sides after four points. The first team (or person) to score five points wins the tiebreaker. If the tiebreaker reaches 4-4, the person who served the 8th point serves the 9th (final) point. The receiver, however, has the choice of sides (except in mixed doubles, where the service must be gender to gender). The winner of the 9th point is the winner of the set.
Set scores will be carried over to team totals. In the final set, a team losing has a chance to tie the match provided it wins the last set. Play will then enter sudden-death overtime until either the leading team scores or the team score is tied. Team scores that are tied at the end of the final set will be broken by a super 12-point tiebreaker.
If the match enters into a Supertiebreaker, a coin toss will decide which team serves first. The Supertiebreaker should be treated as a new set and substitutions are allowed. Each player serves two points in succession starting from the deuce court. Players change sides after six points. The first team to score seven points wins the Supertiebreaker. If the tiebreaker reaches 6-6, the person who served the 12th point will serve the 13th (final) point. Since this set is mixed doubles, the final serve will be gender to gender. The winner of the 13th point wins the Supertiebreaker and the match.
