Intramural 8 x 8 Soccer Rules
Eligibility: Only CSULB Students, Faculty, Staff . No alumni.
The Field and Equipment
- The playing field is 80 yards long and 50 yards wide.
- Goalie’s box & circles will be approximated.
- The ball shall be a regulation soccer ball.
- The game ball shall be agreed upon by both teams.
- Shoes are required at all times. Cleats are only allowed if they are molded or nylon.
- Shin guards are mandatory.
The Game
- Duration shall be two twenty minute halves with a 5 minute half-time.
- Forfeit time is 5 minutes past the posted game time.
- 6 Players must be present to play. Failure to provide 6 players results in a forfeit.
- All players must be on the game roster prior to the game and have their Medical Release form on file to be eligible to participate. Late arriving players may enter the contest at the next dead ball, timeout, or halftime provided they are on the roster.
- There is no slide tackling.
- All players must be on the team roster before the first game to be eligible to participate in any of the contests.
- All players must show their CSULB ID EVERY GAME - NO ID, NO PLAY.
- A coin flip shall determine the team which shall choose ball or side. Sides will be switched in the second half.
- Substitutions may be made at any dead ball. Players must notify the referee and wait for his approval to make the substitution. Unlimited substitutions are allowed.
- *Special note*: FOR COED SOCCER 3 females should be on the field at all times – for every female not on the field that team must play one player down. Less than 2 females and it constitutes a forfeit. You may not replace the missing female with a male player. Hopefully this will prevent less forfeits.
Fouls and Dead Ball Situations
- A foul shall result in a free kick, unless in the penalty area where it shall result in a penalty kick. A foul shall result in a free kick, unless in the penalty area where it shall result in a penalty kick.
- Flagrant fouls shall be awarded a yellow card. A red card will be given if the foul is intended to harm, no attempt at the ball was made or if a player was taken down to stop a breakaway.
- A red card will result in immediate ejection of the guilty player without replacement and suspension for the next game.
- Two yellow cards in one game equal one red card with the same implications.
- No offside
- One referee is making all the calls, thus line calls will be judgement calls and teams are advised to use caution for other tricky maneuvers.
- No protest allowed unless the protest is regarding an ineligible player, by the team captain, which must be indicated on the roster.
Scoring and Results
- In the event of a tie after regulation a five minute overtime will be played. One minute rest will be given before the start of overtime and an additional coin flip shall determine ball and side.
- In case of a tie after overtime penalty kicks shall decide the outcome. Each team will get five kicks. In case of a tie thereafter the penalty kicks shall continue until one team has gained a one goal advantage.
- If hour time limit is up the game will end in a tie.
- All formal protests must be made in writing on the official protest form and submitted to the Intramural Department office by 4:00 P.M. the following business day. Forms may be picked up at the office if none are at the site.
