Conduct of Participants & Spectators

All actions and comments, whether to officials, supervisors, participants, or spectators should be constructive, if offered at all.
We encourage everyone to play to the best of their ability and make every effort to win within the spirit of the rules. We strongly discourage win-at-all-costs attitudes and expect everyone to conduct themselves in a gracious and mature manner in victory AND defeat. Intramural activities are for the enjoyment of the participants only. They should be viewed in relation to their relative importance in a person’s life and the world in general.

REMINDER:

The Intramural Sports Staff reserves the right to act on any situation that may arise that is not specifically covered in the regulations.

Guidelines

The following guidelines for participants and spectators should assist teams in reinforcing a sportsmanlike atmosphere.

  • Participants and spectators are expected to behave in a cooperative, positive manner which contributes to the Intramural philosophy or the spirit of competition.
  • Each team is responsible for the conduct of their team members and spectators before, during, and after the contest.
  • All vulgar, obscene, abusive, derogatory, and demeaning comments or gestures that create a hostile environment, generate ill-will, and contribute to a negative Intramural experience, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
  • All instances of unnecessary roughness, attempting to injure another person, threatening another person, provoking an altercation, or fighting will result in severe disciplinary action, which will most likely mean being banned from the league for the remainder of the season or until the director reinstates that individual.
  • Participants and spectators are expected to comply with the requests and directives of all Intramural Personnel in a respectful, pleasant manner.
  • Spectators must remain in an area which is not near the scorers table. The scorers and time keepers do not need to be distracted by the spectators.
  • Individuals and teams that violate these guidelines will be disciplined at the discretion of the officials, Intramural supervisors, and the Director of Intramurals.
  • Teams may be penalized for the actions of their spectators as well as their team members.

Alcohol

At no time during any Intramural Sports Activity is the consumption of alcoholic beverages allowed. Individuals suspected of being under the influence will not be allowed to participate and will be asked to leave the playing area. Each team is responsible for enforcing this policy with team members and spectators. Violators are subject to disciplinary action.

Intramural Ejection Policy / Play or Conduct

  • Any Intramural participant ejected from a game/activity is suspended for the remainder of the league
  • Any individual addressing an official, supervisor, or other Intramural personnel in an unsportsmanlike or discourteous manner will be disqualified immediately. The individual will also be suspended for the remainder of the season.

Procedure for Appeals

An individual who wishes to appeal a suspension must provide the Intramural Department with a written statement within 48 hours after the infraction. After a written request has been submitted the director and coordinator of that particular activity will review the situation and render a decision before the next contest.
If the Intramural Department has not received a formal appeal in the time span stated above, the suspension will remain and there will be no further discussion.
