Intramural 5-player Basketball Rules
- Games consist of two 20-minute (running time) and a 2-minute halftime. The clock will stop on all dead balls the last 2 minutes of each half unless the team is winning by 15pts. or more at the 2-minute mark. If that is the case the clock will continue to run through.
- At game time a team must have a minimum of four players to start the game. If the minimum of four players are not present the clock will start and the opposing team will receive one point for every minute the game is delayed up to the ten minute mark in which the game will then be forfeited. If a player arrives after the game has started you may use a timeout to get the player signed in, otherwise the player will not be allowed to check-in until half time. The scorers and timekeepers should not be bothered because of your team’s negligence.
- Forfeit Fees: There will be a $30.00 (Cash Only) fine for a forfeit. Two forfeits and your team will be eliminated from the league. This must be paid within 48hrs of the forfeit. If it is not paid by that time your team will be assessed another forfeit and your team will be dropped from the league (Again—Two forfeits and you are out)
- Each team will be allowed 2 time outs (30 seconds, clock will be stopped) per half. Timeouts will not be carried over until the second half. If you do not use your timeouts in the first half you will lose them.
- Five fouls disqualify a player (technical foul counts as a personal foul).
A player charged with a foul must immediately raise his hand and report his number to the official.
- EJECTION FOR FIGHTING: The player who initiates a fight (ex: hitting, pushing, spitting, kicking, elbowing, etc.) will be ejected from the game and will be disqualified from the league. Two technical foul shots will be awarded to the opposite team for the infraction. Anyone involved in the altercation will be ejected from that game and will be suspended for one year.
- An official may eject a player from the game if he/she feels that the players’ conduct is being viewed as being disruptive (ex: taunting, arguing, with officials, etc.) during the games. The official does not have to give a warning before ejecting the player
- If a player is ejected by an official for unsportsman-like conduct, he/she will be disqualified from the league.
- Two technical fouls will result in ejection and the player will be suspended from the league for unsportsmanlike conduct.
- Any player who attacks an official during or after a game will be banned from participating in any LONG BEACH STATE INTRAMURAL ACTIVITIES.
- A one-and one situation is in effect from the seventh team foul in each half, also on the tenth foul of each half, two shots will be taken.
- Substitutes must check in with the scorer and may enter the game only after being beckoned by an official (Scorer will blow a whistle for substitutions.) Penalty for illegal substitution: Technical foul
- Tie Games: Regular season NO SUDDEN DEATH.
- There will be a one-minute break between the end of a game and any and all overtime.
- Three-minute overtime. ONE TIME OUT will be granted per team and the clock will stop on all dead balls.
- All technical fouls will be shot after the call has been made, and the clock will stop during that time.
- If, in the opinion of the officials, a team or player employs deliberate delaying tactics a flagrant technical foul will be called. The ball will immediately be awarded to the other team and two shots will be taken.
- Deliberate delaying tactics do not include a ball control offense. Examples are: intentional fouls in order to take advantage of the running clock, time-out when the team has already used its one time-out per half.
- Only the team captain or manger may officially approach an official to question or discuss a point regarding the game.
- All teams should try to wear numbered jerseys. If we are able to supply jerseys, PLEASE put them in a pile at the scorer’s desk after the game. If any jerseys not returned that team will forfeit every game until the jersey has been returned or has been paid for, and the person who was wearing the jersey, which is missing, will have a hold put on their records until the matter has been solved.
- Protests:
- Contests (a misinterpretation, not misjudgment) can only be protested if the outcome is directly affected by this decision. A misinterpretation of a rule by an official must have a direct bearing on the outcome of the game to be protested and MUST BE PROTESTED AT THE TIME OF THE DECISION by the team captain to the referee who will make a note of this on the scorecard before resuming play. A detailed written protest must be filed at the Intramural office by 12:00 noon of the next school day. No action will be taken until this is done. If the written protest is not delivered by the designated time the protest will not be reviewed.
- Protest on eligibility may be made only by team captains, or Intramural managers (or individual participants in the case of “singles”) within that playing tournament. The burden of proof rests with the protestor. All challenged eligibility cases must appear on the day summoned or they will forfeit their right to play until the case is settled.
