On July 2, 2001, our campus will implement the first phase of CMS (Common Management System) when we begin using new human resources and financial software to conduct much of our business. CMS represents a collaborative approach by all 23 CSU campuses to develop a common application software system which we anticipate will also facilitate more effective and efficient business practices and operations.
These new systems should enable the campus to be more responsive to the needs of our faculty, staff and students by providing enhanced data access and streamlined business processes. Initially, many of our processes and forms related to human resources and financial management will change. Some processes that are now being performed on paper will be performed electronically. It is anticipated that by 2003, many of our student administration processes will also change.
Implementing new application software systems is a significant event that will introduce change into our daily campus tasks, but it also presents great opportunity. Change can be frustrating in the early stages because we have become comfortable with the way we currently conduct business. We anticipate that any frustration will be short-lived and will decrease rapidly once new procedures and processes have been learned. Your patience and understanding in the upcoming weeks and months will help us realize the potential that CMS offers. Many activities and support programs have been developed to assist you in the transition to CMS, including training, web sites, and contacts for help.
CMS is a challenging undertaking that will return important benefits to our campus over time. Our campus has played a leading role in the consortium of campuses involved in the CMS project over the last few years. We have been fortunate to have the right spirit of cooperation and support on this campus that is necessary to be successful. As the Executive sponsors we recognize the importance of your role and want to thank you for your support as we strive to improve our services.
