Part Time Lecturer

POSITION:  Part-Time Lectureship  (Typical assignment is for a single semester, although multi-semester contracts are occasionally approved to a maximum of four semesters based upon significant successful teaching experience in the field and projected continuing needs in the department.)

EFFECTIVE DATES:  January 23, 2002 - Spring

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  The job applicant must have completed all the requirements for a Ph.D. in history without the dissertation and have a graduate field in the area in which they wish to teach.  The applicant must have the ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:  A Ph.D. in History.  Preference will be given to those whose education and teaching experience best qualifies them for the particular course to be staffed and those with CSU teaching experience.

DUTIES:  Teach one to three courses in one or more of the listed areas, depending on enrollment demand and lecturer´s specialties.  Courses that may need to be covered include: (1) upper and lower division U.S. survey (early and recent); (2) World history; (3) early and recent Western Civilization; (4) British survey; (5) upper division European surveys; (6) Japanese history; (7) African history; (8) California History; (9) historiography; and other academically-related assignments as needed.

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with training and experience; possible range for a 3-unit course: $528-632 per six months.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:  Letter of application addressing qualifications; current curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation; official transcript from institution awarding highest degree, and evidence of teaching effectiveness.

(Employment is contingent upon proof of legal right to work in the United States.  This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University.  An appointment is not final until proof is provided.
