EFFECTIVE DATES: August 26, 2002-December 23, 2002; January 22-May 30, 2003
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. degree in English or appropriate related discipline. Candidates are expected to have an excellent record of teaching or demonstrate potential for teaching excellence on the university level appropriate to the assignment. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to those whose training and experience best qualify them for the particular courses to be staffed. For composition courses, the following is preferred/desired: Training and experience in teaching composition at all levels from basic to advanced writing. Training and experience assessing writing. Experience teaching technical writing or writing across the disciplines. Experience in the application of technology into the composition or technical writing class. Ph.D. in English is preferred for graduate course assignments. M.F.A. in Creative Writing is preferred for courses within the M.F.A. program.
DUTIES: Teach one or more sections of courses in specialized area: Developmental Writing (American Language Program [ALP] or ENGL 001E); First-year Composition; Critical Reading and Writing; Technical and Professional Writing; Advanced Composition; Applied Composition and Literacy courses for prospective teachers; Literature (courses may range from introductory through graduate levels); Creative Writing; English Education (including literature for adolescents and pre-adolescents, ethnic writers, and student teacher supervision). Applicants should be available on short notice for assignment to classes in Fall 2002 or Spring 2003.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with training and experience. Probable range for one 3-unit course is from $563.00- $723.00 per month, paid in six installments per semester.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION: Letter of application indicating the specialized area(s) for which you are applying; résumé; three letters of recommendation (one of which must be from an off-campus reference); a writing sample (maximum 12 pages); and official transcript from institution awarding highest degree showing its completion. (Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States. This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University. An appointment is not final until proof is provided.)
