POSITIONS:   Three year Full-Time Lectureship position renewable for subsequent three-year terms, dependent upon funding and satisfactory performance. In addition to standard yearly evaluation, performance review for renewal will occur in the second year of appointment for each 3-year appointment. 

EFFECTIVE DATE:  August  26, 2002

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  M.A. degree in English or appropriate related discipline.  Candidates must show potential for excellent teaching on the college and university level appropriate to the assignment; potential for teaching/supervising second-language developmental writing courses; potential for teaching composition as well as literature courses; potential for leadership relative to supervision of graduate students.  Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Documented, excellent record of teaching at the college/university level.  Successful experience coordinating an instructional program aimed at second-language students. Training and experience in teaching composition at all levels from basic to advanced writing, as well as training in assessment of writing.  ABD or PhD with course work and training related to the assignment and duties. Organizational and mentoring skills relative to the supervision of graduate students who will teach basic writing courses.  Demonstrated effective teaching of various literature courses. Experience in reading/assessing a writing proficiency exam similar to the Writing Proficiency Examination (WPE), a CSU-required test of writing proficiency, or the equivalent. Experience at a comprehensive university system similar to the CSU.

DUTIES: May include, but are not limited to, the following: Serve as director of WPE Preparation and Review, an instructional program for developmental writing; recruit, train and supervise graduate student-instructors of developmental writing; participate in WPE development and assessment; teach one or more sections of courses in developmental writing, first-year composition, introductory and, genre classes in literature. Participate in assessment activities and curriculum development. Serve on department, college and university committees.

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with training and experience. Probable range is  $44,964 to $55,380.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:  Letter of application addressing qualifications,  résumé; three letters of recommendation; a writing sample (maximum 12 pages) or publication; and official transcript from institution awarding highest degree showing its completion.  (Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States. This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University.  An appointment is not final until proof is provided.)
