Position: Full-Time Lecturer in Rhetorical Theory and Criticism (One Year Appointment, with possibility of renewal for one year, based on budget and performance). The Department of Communication Studies anticipates hiring a full-time lecturer to meet the curriculum needs of the department's majors and General Education commitments.
Effective Date: August 26, 2002
Minimum Qualifications: M.A. in Communication Studies (by date of appointment) with emphasis in rhetorical theory and criticism, persuasion, argumentation, and/or freedom of speech. Candidate must demonstrate effective teaching, and the ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. or ABD in Communication; potential for or record of scholarly research activity; ability to teach large lecture courses; familiarity with the CSU system.
Duties: The Department expects to hire a full-time lecturer to teach courses that fulfill curriculum needs in Rhetorical Theory and Criticism (rhetorical theory, rhetorical criticism, persuasive speaking, freedom of expression, communication strategies of American and International speakers). The successful candidate will teach four classes per semester, is expected to advise students, and serve as needed on departmental committees.
Salary Range: Based on qualifications and experience, probable range will be $38,000 - $45,000.
Required Documentation: Letter of application addressing qualifications; curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation; official transcript from institution awarding highest degree; summary of teaching evaluations; SC-1 form from Department. Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States. This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University. An appointment is not final until proof is provided.
