EFFECTIVE DATE:   Spring Semester - January 23, 2002

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  M.A. in English, Humanities, Spanish, Comparative Literature, Ethnic Studies, or American Studies.  Candidate must demonstrate successful college or university teaching experience.  Applicant must be able to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. and specialty in Chicano or Latino literature written in the United States or specialty in Chicano or Latino images depicted in motion pictures, documentaries, other types of film, or video.  Adequate bilingual communications skills to explain and interpret the history, development, themes, and genres of the literature of the Chicano and by the Chicano in English and Spanish texts, Spanish language films to English speakers.    

DUTIES: The appointee will teach one or more of the following courses:  CHLS 405 Chicano Literature, CHLS 150 Introduction to Chicano Literary Studies, CHLS 395 Latino Cultural Images in Film; CHLS 490 Chicana/o and Latina/o Cultural Production.

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with training and experience; probable range $528-632 per 3-unit course in six monthly installments.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:  Letter of application addressing qualifications; Resume; Three letters of recommendation; Official transcript from institution awarding highest degree.

(Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States.  This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University.  An appointment is not final until proof is provided.)
