POSITION:    Joint three year Full-Time Lectureship position renewable for subsequent three-year terms, dependent upon funding and satisfactory performance.  In addition to standard yearly evaluation, performance review for renewal will occur in the second year of appointment for each 3-year appointment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:     M.A. degree in English or appropriate related discipline.  Candidates are expected to have an excellent record of teaching or demonstrate potential for teaching excellence on the university level appropriate to the assignment.  Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Potential for effective teaching of language instruction, linguistics, literary and cultural studies.   Academic training and experience in Composition Studies.  Training and experience in teaching composition at all levels from basic to advanced writing.  Training and experience in Chicano or Latino literature written in the United States.  Adequate bilingual communication skills to explain and interpret the history, development, themes and genres of the literature of the Chicano/Latino and by the Chicano/Latino in English and Spanish texts, Spanish language films to English speakers.  Training and experience in writing assessment and curriculum development.  Training and experience in the application of technology into the composition writing class and developing information competency skills.  ABD in Composition Studies or appropriate related discipline preferred for graduate course assignments.  Supervision of composition program activities and composition faculty.  Experience at a comprehensive university system similar to the CSU.

DUTIES:    May include, but are not limited to, the following:  Teach one or more sections of courses in Developmental Writing (Bilingual Communication SkillsCEnglish, American Language Program [ALP] or ENGL 001); First-year Composition (English 100, CHLS 104); Critical Reading and Writing; Advanced Composition; Applied Composition and Literacy courses for prospective teachers; CHLS 150 Introduction to Chicano Literary Studies, CHLS 405 Chicano Literature.  Participate in assessment activities and curriculum development.  Participate in development of composition program.  Serve on department, college, and university committees.  

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with training and experience.  Probable range is  $48,000-$55,000.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:    Letter of application addressing qualifications,  résumé; three letters of recommendation; a writing sample (maximum 12 pages) or publication; and official transcript from institution awarding highest degree showing its completion.  (Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States. This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University.  An appointment is not final until proof is provided.)
