POSITION:  Three Semester Full-Time Lectureship in Black Studies; possibility of renewal for a second academic year depending upon performance and budget.

EFFECTIVE DATE:   January 23, 2002

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. in Black Studies or closely related field. Potential for effective teaching in language skills or composition in Black Studies.  Candidate must have ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  ABD or Ph.D. in Black Studies or closely related field; specialization in language skills or composition. Training and experience in teaching language skills or composition. Training and experience assessing writing, particularly using portfolios. Ability to work with other departments in the effort to promote coherence in university-wide writing programs. Ability to incorporate technology in teaching language skills. Potential for effective teaching of bilingual and bidilectal students.

DUTIES:  Teach courses in language skills or composition. Participate in curriculum development and writing assessment with other departments offering language skills and composition courses. Work with other instructors in departments that teach writing courses to develop a coherent university-wide writing program.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with training and experience;  probable range $40,000 - $45,000

Letter of application addressing qualifications; teaching portfolio where available (e.g., syllabi, evaluations, statement of teaching philosophy, etc.); curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation; and official transcript from institution awarding the highest degree.  Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States.  This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University. An appointment is not final until proof is provided.
