EFFECTIVE DATE:  Spring Semester - January 23, 2002

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:  M.A. or equivalent course work in American Indian studies or a related field. Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  M.A. in American Indian Studies, American Indian History, American Indian Cultures, American Indian Literature. At least one year teaching experience at the college level. Experience working with the local Southern California Indian community. Experience teaching in an American Indian studies program. Preferences will be given to the person(s) best suited to teach the courses.

DUTIES: Teaching responsibility in any of the following classes:  Native American History, Contemporary Issues, Native American Literature, Native American Philosophy, Federal Indian Law, Cross Culture Issues, California Indian History.  Hold office hours and work closely with Indian and non-Indian students.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:  Letter of application addressing qualifications; Resume; Three letters of recommendation; Official transcript from institution awarding highest degree.

(Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States.  This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University.  An appointment is not final until proof is provided.)

SALARY:  Commensurate with college-level teaching experience; probable range: $528-633 per month per six monthly installments for one 3-unit course.
