PSYCHIATRIC/MENTAL HEALTH NURSING      3 Positions    - 1 Year

EFFECTIVE DATE:   August 26, 2002

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master's degree in Nursing with specialization in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.  At least  two years teaching experience in a post secondary/nursing program and recent experience in a clinical setting (within the past five years).  Demonstrated effective teaching and a potential for/or record of scholarly/creative activity.  Eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse in California and certification as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist.  Ability to communicate and work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Record of research, publication, or other scholarly, creative activity. Current knowledge of clinical practice issues.  Success in obtaining external funding through grants and contracts adds strength to the candidacy.  Ph.D. or Ed.D. in nursing or a related discipline preferred.

DUTIES:  Select, teach, evaluate course content; teach didactic and student clinical courses at the undergraduate/graduate level. Participate in student recruitment and retention, advise nursing majors, serve as a member of thesis committees and comprehensive examination committees; serve on Department, College, and University Committees.  Serve as a liaison between clinical agency personnel and the Department of Nursing.  Maintain ongoing program of scholarship leading to publication.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and level of employment

Required Documentation: Letter of application addressing qualifications, professional resume, evidence of BRN faculty approval, three letters of recommendation (one attesting to teaching effectiveness), and original transcripts from institutions awarding highest degree (at time of appointment) and the Master's in Nursing Degree.  Employment is contingent upon proof of legal right to work in the United States.  This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University.  An appointment is not final until proof is provided.
