POSITION:   FITNESS SPECIALIST   THREE YEAR FULL TIME LECTURER (Renewable for One Year at a Time for Maximum of Three Additional Years)

EFFECTIVE DATE:   August 26, 2002

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree required with specialization, preparation, and expertise in fitness, or closely related field. Experience in personal training, fitness assessment, fitness management, and/or group exercise leadership.  Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A doctorate degree preferred with specialization, preparation, and expertise in fitness, or closely related field.  Evidence of successful teaching experience in fitness at a four-year college/university or community college.  Experience in personal training, fitness management, and/or group exercise leadership.  National certifications in personal training and group exercise leadership desired. Ability to teach one or more physical activity courses.  Knowledge of and experience with software, and instructional technology related to fitness. 

DUTIES:   Assist with coordinating and directing the undergraduate Fitness Option program. Teach classes in the undergraduate Fitness program.  Academic advisement of undergraduate students in the Fitness program.  Assist with University Extension and community-based programs.  Other duties as assigned.

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with experience and level of employment.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:  Letter of application addressing qualifications, professional resume, three letters of recommendation,  and an official transcript from the institution awarding highest degree (at time of appointment). 

Employment is contingent upon proof of the legal right to work in the United States.  This proof must be provided prior to employment at the University.
